Just released Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Windfall have just released our 2010 Sauvignon Blanc.  From our first bottling in 2006 our 2010 is by far the best vintage. With typical qualities of a Sauvignon Blanc, but with the slightest wisps of tropical fruit on the nose, and rounded off to the utmost perfection with a slight wood nuance.  Kobus van der Merwe has magic hands and is the star behind our wines.  We pride ourselves on quality vs quantity so get your hands on some as soon as you can, this is a wine that captures what Windfall is all about!  Amazing.

Wacky Wine 2010

Well 2010 was a first for many things for us.  Our first Wacky Wine, first Hands on Harvest and the first Soccer World Cup  on African soil.  I wanted to share what we were up to and to thank everyone involved and who came to visit us.  We had nothing but positive feedback, and most of the people who came loved the smaller more intimate setting.  We hope to see you again next year!

Sumsaré

Sumsaré is undoubtedly a family affair.  Danie runs the farm but his son Johannes is currently studying wine farming at Stellenbosch University and will eventually take over the reins. Danie’s wife Petro has spent hours researching the family history and has collected many interesting antiquities now displayed in the tasting room and next door in the museum that depict the farm life of yesteryear. Daughter Francèl helps out in the tasting room while Janine has put the Sumsaré brochure and website together and Danielle will be helping with the marketing of the wine.

Situated only two hours from Cape Town, our private cellar offers exclusive wine tasting and sales in the Robertson Valley. Surrrounded by mountains and vineyards you can sit back, relax andexperience farm hospitality at its best.

A special wine, harvested from our best Shiraz grapes on the farm. Matured in a combination of fine French and American Oak barrels, which gives this dark elegant wine a subtle taste with aromas of pepper, berries, mocha and leather pleasantly lingering on the palate.

This will develop and mature further with time.

Wacky Wine Passports!

All visitors need to purchase a passport (R70) at their first port of call. This includes a stylish tasting glass, WWW goodie bag, festival program and a bottle of water to pace yourself with.

How does the passport work? The passport entitles you to free tastings (25ml-samples) of our wines for the duration of the festival. However, it is not a ticket to unlimited drinking and should you like more of a particular wine, you’re welcome to either buy a glass, or share a bottle amongst friends. Other activities offered work on a pay-as-you-go basis with some activities free of charge.

BOOKINGS: Many of the activities need to be booked in advance (directly with the wineries) and we strongly advise you to do so sooner rather than later as they tend to be booked out rather quickly. Please make use of the online program for this.

Amathunzi Nature Reserve

An expansive 3000ha private game reserve, Amathunzi is a treasure trove for plant lovers, comprising fynbos, renosterveld and succulent Karoo biomes. Antelope and zebra graze in the untrammeled space, while above raptors wheel and glide. The Amathunzi reserve can only be explored on foot or by bike, or we can arrange an evening game drive in the open-topped LandCruiser, and toast the setting sun from one of the reserve’s viewpoints.

For some it’s simply the peace that comes with nature, with nothing but birdsong to distract. For others, the views: empty valleys studded gem-like with flowering succulents and grazing antelope, against a backdrop of undulating mountains. Vast blue skies that turn star-spangled when the sun dips behind these craggy peaks. But mostly it’s the luxury of privacy, with only a handful privileged enough to find themselves ensconced in accommodation that is spacious, gracious and welcoming, in a privately owned reserve less than two hours from Cape Town.

Plastic wine bottles.

People are only just getting used to the infamous screw caps, now we have something else to look forward too, the plastic bottle…  Carbon footprints will be reduced, and transporting will make it easier and safer.  How will this affect the aging of the wine as opposed to glass?  Click here for more information.
