Windfall Wine

The boutique South African wine farm Windfall is located in the Agterkliphoogte valley in Robertson.  This small town was named after the late Dr William Robertson, who established a mission in the valley in 1822.

Robertson, also known as the “Valley of Wine and Roses” captures the hearts of residents and farmers alike, who all take much pride in their small town.

Previously the farm was owned by Phillip Lourens, and called Spesbona.  Subsequently sold to Eddie Barlow the famous South African cricketer.  Eddie noticed the mist cascading down the enclosing mountains and decided to change the name to Windfall – hopefully this now turns into our windfall!

The current owner Robert Alexander, a prominent property developer from KZN, who is always up to a challenge, has rebuilt dams, re-planted vineyards, drilled for new boreholes and finally built a boutique cellar.

Kobus van der Merwe has been installed as the winemaker who brings with him 30 years experience in the industry.  Never satisfied with
mediocrity he is always experimenting in search of ultimate.  At this time only small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc are made, together with a Method Cap Classique from Chardonnay grapes which is due for release in 2010 – watch the site for more information!

We would like to limit the production to 600 bottles of each variety  to make the wine that good and that exclusive, even if it means pressing the grapes in numerical order!
